The South African government is urging Tesla\u00a0<\/span>to set up manufacturing facilities in the country, reports Fortune<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This follows a DTI<\/a> <\/strong>statement by Minister Rob Davies in which Tesla had \u201cexpressed the interest of investing in South Africa\u201d.<\/p>\n

Minister Davies indicated that South Africa\u2019s automotive programme already has an additional incentive that applies to the electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

He further stated that government understands that electric vehicles are where things are going, including hybrids and fuel cells.<\/p>\n

But it’s not Tesla’s vehicles that will bring the biggest business the country.<\/p>\n

“It is rather Tesla\u2019s grid battery, the PowerWall<\/a><\/strong>, that is likely to make a serious impact in a country that has an underfunded electricity grid, a lot of sun for solar energy, and many businesses and even homes that are keen to protect themselves from occasional blackouts.”<\/p>\n
