Love it or hate it, Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s 90% music policy has changed the music landscape in South Africa.<\/p>\n
While your favourite station may be a little more worse for wear as it scrambles to find local music that will please its audience,there is one station that has been brought to its knees by the new policy – Lotus FM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In order to meet the 90% local music requirement, the predominantly Hindi-focused station has had to play Kwaito, Afrikaans, and other local music.<\/p>\n As a result “in the four months since the decree took effect, the Durban-based radio station has lost about a third of its listeners, with its average listener numbers falling by about 130,000, from 390,000 to 260,000,”\u00a0Times Live reports<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The station is also losing advertising money as a result, with advertisers saying “their research shows that their target market no longer listens to Lotus FM”.<\/p>\n As a result, listeners have simply responded by switching off.<\/p>\n This is how much a 1440p gaming PC costs in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The next Assassin\u2019s Creed has been leaked<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
