When originally writing this article,\u00a0I\u00a0had a pre-planned list of things to tick off my\u00a0list as to why gamers should choose Sony’s console over Microsoft’s.<\/p>\n
As I\u00a0prepared to tick off each point from my\u00a0list however, I realised that many of the major selling points that differentiated the\u00a0consoles on release have now been fixed.<\/p>\n
Microsoft has effectively retained backwards compatibility across its Xbox lineup and added support for HDR Gaming with the release of the Xbox One S.<\/p>\n
Having said that, games do tend to run better on Sony’s platform, typically at 1080p 30 FPS vs 900p or lower on the Xbox One, but the Xbox One S has made improvements in this area too.<\/p>\n
The PS4 is also the only console at the moment that has a dedicated VR peripheral, as we’re still not 100% sure if Microsoft’s VR gaming solution\u00a0will ever see the light of day.<\/p>\n
Next up is the fact that you can change the PS4’s internal hard drive – meaning you won’t have to deal with nasty externals jutting from the console.<\/p>\n
It also arguably has a stronger game line up going forward, if only because you can now also play Xbox exclusives on PC thanks to Microsoft’s Play Anywhere program.<\/p>\n
Subjectively speaking, this is true for games also already released on the console with titles like Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne being must-plays.<\/p>\n
Finally, the Xbox One can’t stand up by itself – a low-blow for sure, but certainly one to consider if you are short on space next to your TV.<\/p>\n
I\u00a0wish we had a more controversial decision to reach for you , but the honest answer is it looks like the console to own is the the one that has the games you want to play.<\/p>\n
