I recently had chance to sit down and try-out the three “big” VR headsets – the HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift, and the PS VR.<\/p>\n
While I enjoyed my time with all of the VR headsets, it was still very much a controlled environment and there’s no way of telling if that would carry over to my experience at home.<\/p>\n
Specifically, a problem with all this hands-on time is that it doesn’t account for all the games releasing on the platform – what’s the point of paying\u00a0for\u00a0an expensive headset if it’s only going to have two games you actually want to play.<\/p>\n
It seems one headset has this problem more than others, and in an open letter to Valve, popular YouTuber Woodsie addressed this point directly.<\/p>\n
While games released at a breakneck speed for the platform, it’s clear that Valve has placed less time and investment in its Vive than Sony or Facebook.<\/p>\n
Furthermore Woodsie posits that Valve is using novelty as a crutch for its releases rather than developing meaningful experiences for the platform.<\/p>\n
