{"id":107847,"date":"2016-10-21T09:00:27","date_gmt":"2016-10-21T07:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=107847"},"modified":"2016-10-21T09:01:18","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T07:01:18","slug":"what-hdr-actually-means-for-pc-gamers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/107847-what-hdr-actually-means-for-pc-gamers","title":{"rendered":"What HDR actually means for PC gamers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While PC technology is\u00a0usually ahead of the curve compared to consoles, HDR seems to\u00a0be the exception to this rule.<\/p>\n<p>The PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One S all support HDR when connected to a compatible TV, but it seems that PC gamers will have to wait for HDR, as there are\u00a0various hardware obstacles to overcome first.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>High Dynamic Range<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>HDR standards have become varied and unnecessarily complicated, to the point where consumers are confused as to what the term actually means.<\/p>\n<p>High Dynamic Range essentially refers to an expanded color and contrast range, factors which become more important than resolution at\u00a0the 4K standard.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is very new and standards are still being defined. This also means that most current displays are not HDR compatible, as the new<strong> UHD Premium<\/strong> standard\u00a0requires a minimum of 1,000 nits of brightness, more than double that of the brightest desktop monitors on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Graphics cards are ready for HDR however, with Nvidia&#8217;s <strong>Maxwell<\/strong> and <strong>Pascal<\/strong> GPUs supporting the technology.
