The upcoming Skyrim HD Remaster is bringing mod support to the PS4, but it is severely limited.<\/p>\n
Skyrim Special Edition is a high-definition remaster of the original Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which\u00a0will add improved textures and mod support for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.<\/p>\n
Although the Xbox One will feature unhindered modding support, Sony has stated that it will only allow mods which use existing game assets, severely limiting the modding potential of the game.<\/p>\n
Bethesda’s Pete Hines explains how Skyrim Remastered and Fallout 4 mods will work on PlayStation 4.<\/p>\n
“It’s very simple. If it fits in a plugin file (esp)<\/strong>, it’s fine. If it requires a .bsa<\/strong> file, it’s introducing an asset and isn’t,” said Hines on Twitter<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n This means that the vast majority\u00a0of highest-rated and most popular mods on the Skyrim Nexus<\/a><\/strong> mod database will not be available for PlayStation 4 users.<\/p>\n PlayStation 4 users will not only be missing out on the staggering amount of custom female armour mods, but also user-created weapons, soundtracks, buildings, companions, and even entire campaigns<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Although there are a number of mods which exclusively use in-game assets, the\u00a0decision to bar user-created content from Skyrim will prevent PS4 owners from experiencing\u00a0the majority of highly-rated mods available on PC and Xbox One.<\/p>\n
