{"id":10977,"date":"2011-03-30T13:29:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T11:29:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"rumour-control-new-xbox-disc-format-is-a-1gb-capacity-increase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/xbox\/10977-rumour-control-new-xbox-disc-format-is-a-1gb-capacity-increase","title":{"rendered":"Rumour control: \u201cNew Xbox disc format\u201d is a 1GB capacity increase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Digital Foundry&rsquo;s industry spies have confirmed that that a &ldquo;new Xbox 360 disc format&rdquo; announced ahead of an incoming testing program adds another 1 GB of storage capacity to the existing disc, supplying devs with an extra 15% of so of available space.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report (over on mothership site,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/digitalfoundry-1gb-360-disc-upgrade\" target=\"_blank\"> Eurogamer<\/a>), the console&rsquo;s standard DVD currently allocates only 6.8 GB of its available 7.9 GB storage capacity for game data, with the remainder &ldquo;dedicated to a DVD-Video partition that also contained anti-piracy security sectors&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>In the call out for testers last night, Xbox HQ&rsquo;s Major Nelson announced that program participants would receive a free copy of Halo: Reach &ndash; turns out that&rsquo;s probably not a bonus goodie, but a game pressed to the new format.
