{"id":11027,"date":"2011-04-01T10:03:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-01T08:03:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"heavy-rain-dev-calls-la-noire-tech-an-interesting-dead-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/11027-heavy-rain-dev-calls-la-noire-tech-an-interesting-dead-end","title":{"rendered":"Heavy Rain dev calls LA Noire tech \u201can interesting dead end\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heavy Rain creator David Cage has dismissed LA Noire dev Team Bondi&rsquo;s Motion Scan tech as nothing more than an &ldquo;interesting dead end&rdquo;, saying his own company&rsquo;s technology is better.<\/p>\n<p>The motion capture tech is used to provide extremely &ndash; even somewhat uncannily &ndash; realistic facial animation, a leading feature in the game.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think [Motion Scan is] an interesting solution to a problem for now. But it&rsquo;s also an interesting dead end,&rdquo; Cage told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerandvideogames.com\/296388\/news\/david-cage-la-noire-tech-is-interesting-dead-end-quantics-new-approach-is-the-future\/\" target=\"_blank\">CVG.<\/a> &ldquo;That&rsquo;s exactly what I feel. Their technique is incredibly expensive and they will never be able to shoot body and face at the same time.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Quantic Dream can already do that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are doing that now [at Quantic], and our next games will be shot with performance capture,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;We see a huge difference between shooting the face and body separately and shooting everything at the same time. Suddenly you&#8217;ve got a real sense of acting that is consistent. You can&#8217;t imagine how related what you say with your face is to what your body does.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[MotionScan] will never be able to do that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Or, basically, &ldquo;Everything they can do, we can do better&rdquo;.
