Battlefield 3 is easily one of the most anticipated games currently in development, and you will understand exactly why if you have watched any of the three recently released sneak peak videos. EA has not announced a firm release date, but last month the official French Battlefield facebook page<\/a> posted a link to a French e-tailer Fnac.com<\/a> which listed early pre-orders for the game with a supposed place-holder release date of 2 November, 2011. Fnac has since changed the release date to “December 2011”.<\/p>\n

However, it looks like 2 November is still EA’s planned release date for Battlefield 3, as French gaming site JVN.com<\/a> yesterday spotted that EA itself had published a release date in the EA download manager.<\/p>\n

EA quickly removed the release date, which obviously confirms that it is by no means official, but JVN managed to grab this screen-shot confirming that it did originally list it for release on 2 November.<\/p>\n

What we know about Battlefield 3 so far<\/strong><\/p>\n

– There will be no tracer darts in Battlefield 3. Tracer darts have been used in previous Battlefield games to magnetise vehicles and make them easier to hit with RPGs.<\/p>\n

– Like Bad Company 2, bullets will be effected by gravity over longer distances. However, the new system is much deeper than Bad Company 2’s.<\/p>\n

– Knives and dogtags will return.<\/p>\n

– There will be no ziplines or grappling hooks.<\/p>\n

– Friendly fire will be turned off by default, but will be adjustable.<\/p>\n

– The PC version of Battlefield 3 will allow up to 64 players online on a single server. The console versions will be limited to 24 players.<\/p>\n

– Bad Company 2’s spotting system will return in Battlefield 3.<\/p>\n

– ‘Drop-shooting’ (also known as ‘dolphin driving’) will not work in Battlefield 3. Drop shooting is when players drop to the ground when firing on enemies to make themselves harder to shoot.<\/p>\n

– Prone will be on all three platforms. <\/p>\n

– Battlefield 3 will feature jets.<\/p>\n

– Playable locations will include Tehran and New York.<\/p>\n

– The game will run on the Frostbite 2 engine.<\/p>\n

– There will be a single player and a cooperative campaign.<\/p>\n

– The Limited Edition release will include the Back to Karkand DLC, which will port Battlefield 2 maps into Battlefield 3. This DLC will be available to purchase about a month after release.<\/p>\n

– The battlefield 3 single player campaign will take about 12 hours to complete<\/p>\n
