We’re still reeling from the past 6 weeks which saw Dragon Age 2, Rift, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Homefront, Top Spin 4, Need For Speed: Shift 2, Crysis 2, Shogun 2, Motorstorm Apocalypse and Lego Star War 3 all released, and then of course there was Singstar Afrikaans which still haunts my dreams. <\/p>\n

Things are certainly easing up in April, with less than a handful of major releases to get really excited about. The big name on everyone’s lips for the month is Portal 2, but we are also rather looking forward to Mortal Kombat and Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. Of course there is also Dirt 3, The Witcher 2 and Heroes of Might and Magic 6 to look forward to next month.<\/p>\n

Operation Flashpoint: Red River<\/strong> (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 21 April<\/p>\n

Don’t be fooled by the name, Red River is a fully fledged sequel to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (originally known as Operation Flashpoint 2). Developed by Codemasters, Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a tactical first person shooter.<\/p>\n

Opting for realism over arcade action, Operation Flashpoint: Red River puts players in charge of a squad of marines comprised of a grenadier, scout, rifleman and automatic rifleman. Each soldier will have their own unique equipment and abilities as they battle through Tajiksistan. <\/p>\n

Portal 2<\/strong> (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 22 April<\/p>\n

The sequel to Valve’s iconic first person puzzle solver, in Portal 2 players will return as the Chell – the first game’s protagonist. Once again players will be tested by GLaDOS with a variety of mind-bending puzzles. Expect the same classic humour that made the first game so memorable. <\/p>\n

Socom 4: US Navy Seals<\/strong> (PS3) 22 April (local date unconfirmed)<\/p>\n

Sony’s fourth iteration of its PS3 exclusive third-person tactical shooter series is due to drop this month. Set in Asia, players will control Cullen Gray, the leader of a 4-man NATO special forces team. Facing off against an indigenous militia group, players will be able to lay way-points for squad members, set behavioural traits, and command troops in real time. <\/p>\n

Mortal Kombat<\/strong><\/p>\n

The latest and ninth release in the legendary fighting franchise is simply titled Mortal Combat will be available later this month on PS3 and Xbox 360, and there is talk of a possible PC version in the future. <\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Picking up where Mortal Kombat: Armageddon left off (because most people play MK for the storyline), Mortal Kombat will utilise 3D graphics set against a 2D plane. NetherRealm has previously stated that this is the first game in the series where a concerted effort is being made to provide a deeper gameplay experience that dedicated players will be able to get seriously involved in. <\/p>\n

Virtua Tennis 4 <\/strong>(PC, PS3, Xbox 360) 29 April <\/p>\n

Codemasters served up a fantastic game with Top Spin 4<\/a> last month, and this month we find out if Sega is able to return the ball with Virtua Tennis 4. Like Top Spin 4, Virtua Tennis 4 will host a wide selection of top players, including Rafael nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djovik, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick.<\/p>\n
