It’s been a tough year for South African gamers as game prices creeped past the R1,000 price point on all three major platforms.<\/p>\n
While a lot of this increase has to do with the weakening Rand, what does it mean for the next year of gaming in South Africa?<\/p>\n
MyGaming recently sat down with Tex Hartog to discuss what the future holds for game prices in South Africa.<\/p>\n
As soon as a game\u2019s pricing hits that R1,000 mark, it impacts pre-orders, interest in the product, and in-store sales, said Hartog.<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s fair to say all parties involved are aware of this. Ubisoft isn\u2019t the only publisher that has assisted with keeping games below that \u201cpurchase barrier\u201d; Warner Bro\u2019s, Sony, 2K and more have been actively trying to make gaming more affordable in South Africa.”<\/p>\n
But what will we actually be paying in 2017?<\/p>\n
“As mentioned earlier, barring extenuating circumstances, local Distributors and Publishers are working hard to keep gaming at or below the R999<\/strong> mark,” said Hartog.<\/p>\n
