{"id":11143,"date":"2011-04-07T00:27:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-06T22:27:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"minecraft-banks-33-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/11143-minecraft-banks-33-million","title":{"rendered":"Minecraft banks $33 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>Minecraft creator Markus &ldquo;Notch&rdquo; Persson turned up on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/IAmA\/comments\/gjrf4\/iama_indie_game_developer_who_made_a_commercially\" target=\"_blank\">reddit <\/a>sometime yesterday for one of those regular &ldquo;Ask Me Anything&rdquo; features that quickly became a bunch of people asking how much cash he&rsquo;s made, and people slagging him off because they&rsquo;re jealous they didn&rsquo;t come up with the idea first.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to enquiries on the former subject, Persson revealed that it&rsquo;s &ldquo;A lot. It all ends up in an account somewhere, and I try not to look at it. I get a normal salary these days for day to day stuff, but there&#8217;s a big pile somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The game sold about 800,000 copies at 9.95 euro and then so far 1 million more at 14.95 euro. Paypal takes a cut, there are taxes, and such, but it&#8217;s still a huge wad of money.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to a report on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/33961\/Minecraft_Draws_Over_33_Million_In_Revenue_From_18M_Paying_Customers.php\" target=\"_blank\">Gamasutra<\/a>, Minecraft currently lists 1,813,527 paying customers, totalling around &euro;23 or $33 million in revenue.
