In what must be one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a fan-project, after eight years of development, the Streets of Rage remake<\/a> has been pulled from its website.<\/p>\n

Creators Bombergames, only a few short weeks ago, were touting their completed project. “Streets of Rage Remake is a project created from scratch, it does not use reverse engineering nor a single line of code from the original games. It’s all based on visual interpretation, comparing how things work in the original games and trying to mimic it for Streets of Rage Remake.” <\/p>\n

The game features 19 playable characters, 64 enemies, 103 stages, 40 cutscenes, 76 music tracks, re-mastered original sound FX, and a whole bunch of editors and additional functions. Unfortunately an online mode had to be scrapped due to implementation problems.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately it seems that Sega suddenly paid attention to this remake, and has now requested that the title be taken down. According to a Bombergames forum moderator, “SEGA have contacted regarding the download hosted on this site. While this issue is being resolved, please do not upload the game for others to download. Any links posted on this site will be removed. Thank you.”<\/p>\n

Responding to requests from more information from Kotaku<\/a>, Sega said: “SEGA is committed to supporting any fans that take an interest in our games, and where possible we do so by involving them in Beta tests and other development, marketing or research opportunities. However we need to protect our intellectual property rights and this may result in us requesting that our fans remove online imagery, videos or games in some instances.”<\/p>\n

Hopefully this doesn’t spell the end for this particular Streets of Rage remake, and Bombergames and Sega can come to some sort of agreement regarding the title. If you didn’t grab it over the last two weeks, you may proceed to kick yourself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
