{"id":11482,"date":"2011-04-28T01:23:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-27T23:23:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"sony-slapped-with-a-class-action-lawsuit-over-psn-security-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/playstation\/11482-sony-slapped-with-a-class-action-lawsuit-over-psn-security-breach","title":{"rendered":"Sony slapped with a class action lawsuit over PSN security breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was really only a matter of time, and here it is &ndash; Sony has been hit with a federal class action lawsuit over the recent PlayStation Network security breach, which has potentially resulted in some 77 million compromised PSN IDs.<\/p>\n<p>Filed by one 36-year old Kristopher Johns of Alabama via Rothken Law Firm, and on behalf of 77 million others, the litigation alleges that Sony failed &ldquo;to maintain adequate computer data security of consumer personal data and financial data,&#8221; and to take &#8220;reasonable care to protect, encrypt, and secure the private and sensitive data of its users&rdquo;, and that the company&rsquo;s delay in informing customers of the real problem precluded those customers from making &ldquo;an informed decision as to whether to change credit card numbers, close the exposed accounts, check their credit reports, or take other mitigating actions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The suit is seeking a number of otherwise unspecified damages against Sony.<\/p>\n<p>Rothken&rsquo;s co-counsel J.R. Parker said in a statement, &#8220;Sony&#8217;s breach of its customers&#8217; trust is staggering. Sony promised its customers that their information would be kept private. One would think that a large multinational corporation like Sony has strong protective measures in place to prevent the unauthorized disclosure of personal information, including credit card information.
