smartphones are dying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest figures from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netmarketshare.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>NetMarketShare<\/strong><\/a> show that Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is the most popular version of the Google mobile OS.<\/p>\n<p>January 2017 figures reveal that Android 5.1 and Android 4.4 come in second and third respectively in the Android rankings, with Android 5.0 in fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Collectively, Android dominated the mobile OS landscape \u2013 claiming just under 64% of the market share.<\/p>\n<p>iOS came in second, on just over 32%, while Windows Phone took third \u2013 at 1.48%.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Mobile OS market share<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Android \u2013 <strong>63.99%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>iOS \u2013 <strong>32.03%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Windows Phone \u2013 <strong>1.48%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Java ME \u2013 <strong>1.14%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Symbian \u2013 <strong>0.84%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry \u2013 <strong>0.49%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">BlackBerry falling hard<\/h3>\n<p>Languishing near the bottom was BlackBerry, with 0.49% mobile OS market share.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after Gartner estimated that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/3609817\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>smartphone sales<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by operating system for Q4 2016 saw BlackBerry drop to 0.0% global market share (207,000 units).<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry still releases\u00a0new smartphones, but the latest units run the Android operating system \u2013 such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/smartphones\/192012-this-is-who-will-build-blackberrys-new-smartphones.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>DTEK50 and
