{"id":116107,"date":"2017-03-15T12:43:20","date_gmt":"2017-03-15T10:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=116107"},"modified":"2017-03-15T12:43:59","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T10:43:59","slug":"blizzard-wants-8-5-million-in-copyright-damages-from-cheat-developer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/116107-blizzard-wants-8-5-million-in-copyright-damages-from-cheat-developer","title":{"rendered":"Blizzard wants $8.5 million in copyright damages from cheat developer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blizzard has filed for $8.5 million in damages from Bossland, a maker of \u201cbots\u201d for games such as World of Warcraft and Diablo 3, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/blizzard-wants-8-5-milion-copyright-damages-from-cheat-maker-170314\/\" target=\"_blank\">TorrentFreak reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The motion comes after Blizzard won a case against\u00a0Bossland in the bot maker\u2019s home territory, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>German court the\u00a0Bundesgerichtshof sided with Blizzard after it argued that\u00a0bots damage the game for legitimate players by\u00a0providing an unearned and unfair mechanical advantage.<\/p>\n<p>It also pronounced in Blizzard\u2019s favour in a related copyright infringement case against Bossland.<\/p>\n<p>Blizzard\u2019s latest motion in a US\u00a0court in California is for a default judgement for\u00a0copyright infringement.<\/p>\n<p>Blizzard said Bossland sold at least 42,818 of its hacks in the US.
