This time, however, everything has been thrown out the window for a completely new story and setting to the original.

Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the Dishonored games, Prey has you confined on a space station that’s been overrun by shape-shifting, shadow-like aliens.

Protagonist Morgan Yu will have to fight back against these invaders in a struggle to survive, even as his sanity seems to deteriorate bit by bit.

Strafe

9 May 2017 (PC, PS4)

If you’re craving a bit of mid-90s nostalgia, and one heck of a bloody romp, Strafe is the much-needed throwback to the first-person shooters of yesteryear.

Complete with polygonal graphics and questionable physics, Strafe is the sci-fi infused middle-finger to “realistic” military shooters of today, bringing a shoot-first-ask-questions-later attitude to modern gamers.

Despite the crazy aesthetic, the game actually features an impressive technical feature: randomly generated levels. Every time you die, the level changes, meaning you won’t be fighting the same monsters in the same room every time you respawn.

The Surge

16 May 2017 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

2014’s Lords of the Fallen was a pretty enjoyable Dark Souls-clone that came quite close to doing something special. Developer Deck 13 Interactive are back with their next game, The Surge, which once again takes some inspiration from the Dark Souls series, but mixes it up with some high-tech exoskeletons.

The Surge is set in the future after plans to stop global warming backfired and the only survivors are outfitted with slick exo-suits.

In addition to an interesting and socially-relevant story, the game will feature a “unique limb targeting mechanics’, which allows you to not only highlight weak spots on enemies, but remove items from their armour that you can then use yourself.

You’ll then be able to customise your own exo-suit with protective gear and weaponry from fallen foes.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="The Surge | Combat Trailer | PS4" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_X3nbCqDLU8?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer;
