Fibre-to-the-home is gaining momentum in South Africa, with many ADSL subscribers moving to the faster technology.<\/p>\n
Webafrica product manager Jesse Abrahams said the majority of FTTH packages purchased would be from existing ADSL customers.<\/p>\n
While FTTH coverage is still limited in the country, many companies are aggressively rolling out fibre in metropolitan areas.<\/p>\n
Cybersmart CTO Laurie Fialkov said the hype around fibre means that they are seeing strong growth in the field.<\/p>\n
With a single bill, faster speeds, and an overall better connection, it is not surprising that there is a high demand for fibre lines.<\/p>\n
Many ISPs have indicated that their clients prefer uncapped fibre accounts, and are willing to sacrifice higher speeds for more data when allocating their budget.<\/p>\n
Abrahams said Webafrica\u2019s bestselling product is its\u00a020Mbps uncapped package, which offers great value for money.<\/p>\n
Vox\u2019s Justin Hovener said the Vox Pro uncapped packages \u2013 which include fibre line, data account, mobile data, and uncapped voice \u2013 are its\u00a0most popular products.<\/p>\n
The second-most popular FTTH product from Vox is its basic uncapped service, which includes the fibre line and data account.<\/p>\n
Fialkov said its 400Mbps Lightspeed product, which offers value for money and high speeds, is its biggest seller.<\/p>\n
Cybersmart is also getting a lot of orders for Vumatel\u2019s 50Mbps and 100Mbps FTTH services.<\/p>\n
When looking at Openserve fibre products, Fialkov said the 10Mbps product is\u00a0the line of choice.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though we try to dissuade customers from taking a 10Mbps fibre service, because it really does not showcase fibre speed at all, the Openserve 10Mbps remains popular,\u201d said Fialkov.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think this is a function of how much people are prepared to pay versus what they actually want,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
