Valve has officially confirmed that its version of the Witcher II: Assassins of Kings, due to launch sometime today, does not feature controversial SecuROM DRM, despite the presence of related files in the game folder.<\/p>\n
“I just got a heads up from CD Projekt that the game doesn’t have SecuROM, they just didn’t bother to pull out the dummy files…so that’s good,” writes Valve’s Chris D on the company’s forums.<\/a><\/p>\n Which makes sense, since CD Projekt has previously derided restrictive DRM policies for treating customers like “criminals”. The version of the Witcher II launched over CD Projeckt’s own GOG.com site includes no DRM whatsoever.<\/p>\n In other good news, the dev has also announced on Facebook <\/a>that, “All our DLCs will be FREE. All of them. If anything will be for purchase, those will be expansion packs.”<\/p>\n That includes the day-one DLC add-on “Troll Trouble”.<\/p>\n Of course, the distinction between “DLC” and “expansion” is somewhat blurry, but free stuff is free stuff.<\/p>\n
