Because nothing ever really goes quite according to plan, it\u2019s turned out that the PSN\u2019s reactivation wasn\u2019t entirely without its own problems, and Sony\u2019s emergency response corps has been busy fixing up a password reset exploit that briefly gave hackers access to compromised accounts.<\/p>\n
According to reports, the exploit made it possible for hackers to reset user passwords using only the account holder\u2019s date of birth and email address, information that was allegedly leaked during the security breach earlier this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page,\u201d writes Sony\u2019s corporate communications and social media guy, Patrick Seybold, over on the PlayStation Blog. \u201cContrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.<\/p>\n
\u201cConsumers who haven\u2019t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.\u201d<\/p>\n
