It feels like just the other day that we were still trying to contain our excitement over the release of Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm. Then of course there was Brink last week which was a bit of a letdown, not to mention Homefront. And let’s not forget about Killzone 3, which was 2011’s first big shooter.<\/p>\n

But there is still a lot to come in 2011 for fans of first person shooters. Here are our most anticipated first person shooters still to come this year.<\/p>\n

6. F.3.A.R<\/strong> May<\/em> (PC, PS3, 360)<\/p>\n

Alma is back to serve up a third helping of utter terror in F.3.A.R, or F.E.A.R 3 for those who like their game titles to make sense. Announced for PS3, PC and Xbox 360, F.3.A.R is due out later this month, and promises to introduce new features to the franchise, including co-op and a new cover system. It will also introduce a few new multiplayer modes, and promises more scares than ever before.<\/p>\n

5. Modern Warfare 3<\/strong> November<\/em> (PC, PS3, 360)<\/p>\n

It’s a little bit hard to get excited about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, given that the general consensus is that the series has been on a steady decline for the past two years.<\/p>\n

Still, the world’s biggest third party video games publisher will be throwing everything it’s got at the next instalment of the series, and whether or not we like to admit it, CoD remains the yardstick by which other first person shooters are measured these days.<\/p>\n

4. Resistance 3<\/strong> September<\/em> (PS3)<\/p>\n

Insomniac Games is in the homestretch of developing its next iteration of one of the PS3’s most noteworthy franchises. Set four years after Resistance 2 with the Chimeran threat having taken the upper hand and decimated most of the USA, it will be up to players to deliver an unexpected knockout blow and reclaim civilisation for the human race.<\/p>\n

3. Duke Nukem Forever<\/strong> June<\/em> (PC, PS3, 360)<\/p>\n

The long awaited sequel to the iconic 1996 shooter, Duke Nukem 3D, is just around the corner, with Borderlands developer Gearbox having taken over development duties from now defunct 3D Realms.<\/p>\n

Promising more of what made the original games such classics, Duke Nukem 3D will combine Duke’s coarse humour with current generation production values.<\/p>\n

2. Rage<\/strong> September<\/em> (PC, PS3, 360)<\/p>\n

It’s been a while since legendary development studio id Software released anything noteworthy, but Rage looks set to change that. Running on id’s propriety id Tech 5 engine, Rage looks nothing short of breathtaking, and promises a balls to the wall action-orientated affair.<\/p>\n

1. Battlefield 3<\/strong> Late 2011<\/em> (PC, PS3, 360)<\/p>\n

The consensus in the MyGaming offices is that Battlefield 3 is without a doubt the most exciting looking FPS this year, if not the most exciting game altogether. Promising to make the best of DICE’s propriety Frostbite 2.0 engine, early gameplay footage shows off what is perhaps the most visually stunning game ever seen. And its not likely to be just a pretty face either.<\/p>\n

DICE has a solid track record for delivering compelling, rich and engaging multiplayer shooters. All eyes are on Battlefield 3 this year, and many are predicting that it may be the game to snatch the FPS crown from CoD.<\/p>\n
