The card for serious 4K gamers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s standard PC gaming, and then there&#8217;s playing Doom in 4K with Ultra settings on.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re into the latter, or aspire to be part of the top tier of the Master Race, then the ASUS ROG Strix RX Vega 56 is the graphics card for you.<\/p>\n<p>The card is based on AMD&#8217;s Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU, and offers serious performance for hard-core gamers.<\/p>\n<p>High frame rates at high resolutions are possible thanks to a range of features in the ASUS card, including improved cooling with MaxContact Technology.<\/p>\n<p>This ensures more of the GPU is in contact with the heatsink, which is then cooled by Wing-Blade 0db fans.<\/p>\n<p>The result is 40% more heat-dissipation area and the card does not overheat during heavy gaming sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Tests by ASUS show that under 3DMark 11 Extreme, the\u00a0ROG Strix RX Vega 56 ran 20% cooler than a reference Vega 56, and was 3-times quieter.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Gaming performance<\/h3>\n<p>The result of the efficient cooling in combination with the Vega 56&#8217;s 8GB of HBM2 VRAM,\u00a03,584 stream processors, and GPU boost clock of\u00a01,573MHz means gamers can play the latest titles on max with high frame rates.<\/p>\n<p>Test by ASUS revealed that at 4K (3,840 x 2,160) and with Ultra settings on, the\u00a0ROG Strix RX Vega 56 achieved the following average frame rates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Doom<\/strong> &#8211; 47.1 frames per second.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gears of War<\/strong> <strong>4<\/strong> &#8211; 42.9 frames per second.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not only are the standalone numbers impressive, the tests also revealed that this was 10% faster than the performance of a reference Vega 56.<\/p>\n<p>Another impressive figure from the tests was that while running Doom in 4K, the\u00a0ROG Strix RX Vega 56 never dipped below 30 fps &#8211; and peaked at well over 60 fps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ASUS-Strix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-241192 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ASUS-Strix-640x393.jpg\" alt=\"ASUS Strix\" width=\"640\" height=\"393\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Lighting and overclocking<\/h3>\n<p>With solid hardware and excellent performance ticked off the checklist, the next two requirements gamers look at are lighting and overclocking.<\/p>\n<p>The ROG Strix RX Vega 56 features\u00a0Aura RGB Lighting on the shroud and backplate, and features ASUS Aura Sync &#8211; RGB LED synchronisation technology that enables system personalisation.<\/p>\n<p>Overclocking is taken care of thanks to GPU Tweak II &#8220;one-click overclocking&#8221;, which allows gamers to choose from the following modes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>OC Mode<\/strong> &#8211; Maximum overclocking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gaming Mode<\/strong> &#8211; Balance between performance and silence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silent Mode<\/strong> &#8211; Quiet mode for productivity and media use.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Custom Profile<\/strong> &#8211;
