{"id":12313,"date":"2011-06-10T11:10:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T09:10:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"bobby-kotick-to-buy-controlling-stake-in-myspace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/12313-bobby-kotick-to-buy-controlling-stake-in-myspace","title":{"rendered":"Bobby Kotick to buy controlling stake in MySpace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2011\/06\/10\/us-myspace-idUSTRE7586EW20110610\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a> reports that Activision Blizzard Chief Executive, and general all round videogame industry villain, Bobby Kotick is in final talks to acquire a controlling stake in MySpace.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition is personal, and is in no way linked to Activision Blizzard.<\/p>\n<p>Kotick is part of a small investor group. The group is reportedly the current favoured bidder for the controlling stake in MySpace.<\/p>\n<p>Current MySpace owner, News Corp paid $580 million for MySpace back in 2005. More recently, News Corp had hoped to do a deal valuing the flagging social network at just $100 million, but sources in April said it was unlikely to achieve this target. Sources report that following the sale, News Corp will retain a 20% stake in the business.<\/p>\n<p>Recently Bobby Kotick made headlines for laughing off Battlefield 3 as a &ldquo;PC game&rdquo;, saying he&rsquo;s not too worried about its impact on Modern Warfare 3 sales.
