Dragon\u2019s Dogma is an oddity in the gaming sphere.<\/p>\n

It was an excellent RPG with unique and enjoyable gameplay and an exciting story and has gathered a great deal of support in the ten years since its release in 2012.<\/p>\n

Despite its success,\u00a0there has been no official word about a potential sequel, which is odd when most game developers these days are quick to capitalise on a successful IP.<\/p>\n

While we wait, perhaps forever, for news of a sequel, here is a game that could potentially fill the void.<\/p>\n

Arise of Awakener<\/h3>\n

Arise of Awakener is in the early stages of development by Taner Game, and is being published by Gamera Game.<\/p>\n

We know very little about this game except for an early-development announcement trailer and that it is intended to release in 2023 on PC, PS4 and PS5.<\/p>\n

It is therefore possible that this project could join the long list of IPs that never saw the light of day.<\/p>\n

That said, what we\u2019ve seen so far makes one hopeful for what Arise of Awakener could become if its developers put in the work.<\/p>\n

The plot<\/h3>\n

Much like the journey of the Arisen in Dragon\u2019s Dogma, Arise of Awakener is centred around the player-character\u2019s quest to become the Awakener \u2013 a supposedly impossible task.<\/p>\n

This journey will involve fighting your way through various locales including snowy mountains, ancient ruins, bustling cities and other standard fantasy biomes.<\/p>\n

No doubt there will be a swamp area. There\u2019s always a swamp area.<\/p>\n

While the plot sounds captivating, what Dragon’s Dogma fans can be most excited about is the gameplay.<\/p>\n

Gameplay<\/h3>\n

Anyone who played Dragon\u2019s Dogma will instantly recognise the style of gameplay Arise of Awakener is aiming for: fluid, fast-paced combat with a clear emphasis on classes and their abilities.<\/p>\n

This style of combat makes it incredibly rewarding to take on a myriad of foes ranging from hordes of goblin-like beasts to immense dragons and fire-spewing demons.<\/p>\n

In particular, Arise of Awakener seems to have perfectly created a current-day version of the Dragon’s Dogma magic system.<\/p>\n

For example, the mage-type characters in the trailer conjure terrible spells of various types and elements after incantations and gestures that illustrate the extraordinary power you can invoke at the cost of mobility.<\/p>\n

An amazing open world<\/h3>\n

Dragon’s Dogma had a vast and detailed sandbox to explore – littered with loot, crafting materials and monsters – and it seems Arise of Awakener is no different.<\/p>\n

In the trailer, we see the character exploring forests, riding through plains and even flying atop dragons and airships through misty mountains.<\/p>\n

The extent to how comprehensive the air travel will be remains to be seen, but it appears to be quite expansive, as we briefly see combat between two airships and the player seemingly controlling their dragon while in flight.<\/p>\n

Final thoughts<\/h3>\n

Everything about Arise of Awakener looks very impressive, and if Taner Game can follow through on what the trailer has promised, Arise of Awakener could fast become the Dragon\u2019s Dogma 2 many have been waiting for.<\/p>\n

However, such a momentous day is still a long way off, so don\u2019t get too excited, as many things can change between now and the potential 2023 release.<\/p>\n

If you liked Dragon\u2019s Dogma, then Arise of Awakener is a title to keep your eye on in the coming years.<\/p>\n
