Tencent, the Chinese media mogul, has expanded its video gaming portfolio by acquiring a majority share in Tequila Works.<\/p>\n

The acquisition was announced in a post<\/a> on Tequila Works\u2019 website, where the company stated that it welcomed Tencent as a majority shareholder.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor 12 years, the teams at Tequila Works have passionately crafted high-quality titles that radiated our personal sensibilities,\u201d said Tequila Works CEO Ra\u00fal Rubio. \u201cBut there\u2019s a limit to how much you can grow by yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luz Sancho, Tequila Works’ chairwoman, was equally as supportive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted to ally with a partner that allows us to make Tequila Works a stronger studio with access to all the resources required to produce titles of the highest quality, all made with the care and passion our beloved fans know us for as well as the opportunity of bringing these projects to a wider audience.\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

Tequila Works was founded in 2009 and has produced games such as RIME<\/em>, Deadlight<\/em> and The Invisible Hours<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It is currently working on Song of Nunu, a League of Legends Story<\/em> for Riot Games \u2013 a project that is unlikely to be disrupted by the deal as Tencent owns Riot Games.<\/p>\n

This news follows the recent acquisition of\u00a0Graven<\/i> developer 1C Entertainment and Back 4 Blood<\/em> developer Turtle Rock Studio, and won\u2019t be the last as the company consolidates its place in the gaming industry.<\/p>\n
