February’s Digital 2022 report for South Africa has been published by Kepios, and shows that more South Africans play games on smartphones than on any other platform.<\/p>\n
Kepios is a company dedicated to researching and providing accurate reports of digital trends and behaviour.<\/p>\n
The company primarily acts as an advisory firm and is used in more than 230 countries around the globe.<\/p>\n
Its February 2022 digital report on South Africa detailed the platforms that South Africans primarily use to play games.<\/p>\n
To produce consistent statistics, Kepios examined the percentage of internet users from ages 16 to 64 who play video games on each kind of device.<\/p>\n
Below are the results.<\/p>\n
It is unsurprising that smartphones are the most popular gaming device in South Africa since it is the most accessible gaming platform to South Africans.<\/p>\n
Likewise, PC and console gaming are predictably very popular thanks to the strong local market for these platforms.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the most surprising statistic is that 5.6% of South African internet users play games via VR, as the high cost of acquiring the necessary tech and the limited array of games that currently support VR make it a niche gaming category.<\/p>\n
