{"id":12447,"date":"2011-06-19T22:55:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-19T20:55:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"dota-2-will-be-free-to-play-probably","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/12447-dota-2-will-be-free-to-play-probably","title":{"rendered":"DotA 2 will be free-to-play, probably"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamersbook.com\/scene\/news\/dota-2-will-most-likely-be-free-to-play-game\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gamersbook<\/a>, Valve&#8217;s Doug Lombardi has confirmed that DotA 2 is being developed as a free-to-play game.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the company&#8217;s recent move to allow free-to-play games to be distributed via Steam. Steam currently supports micro transactions, however, it remains unclear whether DotA 2 will make use of these.<\/p>\n<p>It may well be the case that Valve will offer the game completely free for the sole-purpose of promoting the Steam platform. After all, more people using Steam on a daily basis means more people browsing the Steam storefront, and ultimately buying games.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The original DotA was a community developed project using the WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos map editor. The original game was instrumental in birthing a unique game genre, and has gone on to become one of most widely played PC games in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Valve announced last year that it had hired ex-DotA lead designer Icefrog, and bought the rights to the DOTA brand.
