A video game modder, sulim_t, has released a visual mod<\/a> that adds ray tracing to the original 1993 Doom release.<\/p>\n

PRBoom: Ray Traced was released on 1 April and adds real-time lighting to Doom’s first three chapters, overhauling the graphics with a modern look.<\/p>\n

If you want to install the new ray-tracing mod, you’ll need an original Doom.wad file and the PRBoom mod \u2014 which is a modern Doom source port.<\/p>\n

Currently, the ray-tracing mod only works on Nvidia GPUs, but the developer is open to AMD and Linux support being added in the future.<\/p>\n

The PRBoom source port offers native support for both Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, which can ease the performance impact that ray-tracing places on a player’s system.<\/p>\n

However, this will require users to have a powerful enough PC with a high-end GPU to keep up with the resource-demanding process.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first id Software title to get a ray-tracing update, either \u2014 Nvidia partnered with id Software to make Quake II RTX in 2019.<\/p>\n
