{"id":125487,"date":"2022-06-20T08:28:33","date_gmt":"2022-06-20T06:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=125487"},"modified":"2022-06-20T08:28:33","modified_gmt":"2022-06-20T06:28:33","slug":"new-epic-games-developer-tools-for-epic-steam-crossplay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/pc\/125487-new-epic-games-developer-tools-for-epic-steam-crossplay","title":{"rendered":"New Epic Games developer tools for Epic-Steam crossplay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Epic Online Services has been <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.epicgames.com\/en-US\/news\/epic-online-services-release-free-pc-crossplay-tools?sessionInvalidated=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>updated<\/strong><\/a> with a variety of new features that are primarily focused on letting gamers connect with their friends across platforms.<\/p>\n<p>This extends upon the original services that were available from Epic Online Services &#8211; which launched in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The service\u2019s primary goal is to allow gamers to connect with their friends regardless of their platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrossplay gives all friends the opportunity to come together and create fond memories across interactive experiences,\u201d said Simon Allaeys, Senior Director of Epic Online Services.<\/p>\n<p>We have listed the main features that have been added to the development tool below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>All friends, one place:<\/strong> Steam and Epic Games Store friends merge into one overlay, allowing players to see all friends in a single list.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrated game invites:<\/strong> In-game, players can search and send invites to friends across Steam and the Epic Games Store, making connecting and playing together easy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Account linking:<\/strong> Onboarding without emails or password prompts. With just a few clicks, Steam players can jump into a game while an Epic Games account is created under the hood for their Steam account.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Update-free improvements:<\/strong> When games are installed, the crossplay features are distributed via a self-updating in-game overlay. Players can enjoy new features and improvements without needing to update anything themselves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plug-and-play SDK:<\/strong> Each Epic Online Services toolset is self-contained, so developers can mix and match the services they want to implement, incorporate the things they want, and leave the rest.
