The most important aspects to consider when playing any competitive first-person shooter game are your speed, accuracy, and crosshair placement.<\/p>\n

These fundamentals will be the difference between winning and losing a gunfight, and practising these aspects will ensure you improve at the game and remain competitive.<\/p>\n

The tips featured below will help train one or more of these aspects to improve your overall aim in games such as CS: GO, Valorant<\/em>, and more.<\/p>\n

While these tips are geared towards beginners, you may find some of these suggestions helpful regardless of your skill level.<\/p>\n

Mouse sensitivity<\/h3>\n

The first thing any player needs to do is find their optimal mouse sensitivity.<\/p>\n

A common mistake made by many gamers is having a sensitivity that is too high.<\/p>\n

This is evident by overcorrecting when having to flick onto an enemy that is not immediately in front of you.<\/p>\n

High sensitivity also makes it difficult to make micro-adjustments to get your crosshair back onto the opponent’s head.<\/p>\n

To see if your sensitivity is too high, place your mouse on the left-most portion of your pad and then drag your mouse to the right-most portion of your pad.<\/p>\n

As a general rule, if you have moved more than 180 degrees, then you likely have a mouse sensitivity that is a bit too high.<\/p>\n

If you have a favourite player in mind and want to practice with their mouse sensitivity, then you can calculate your eDPI \u2014 which is your set mouse DPI multiplied by your in-game sensitivity.<\/p>\n

Once you have this value, you can look up pro players\u2019 eDPI and change yours accordingly.<\/p>\n

The general rule of thumb in Valorant<\/em>, for example, is to have an eDPI value of between 200 and 400.<\/p>\n

The right gear<\/h3>\n

When it comes to aiming accuracy, the two most important pieces of hardware are your mouse and mousepad.<\/p>\n

Today, you can get an accurate gaming mouse without breaking the bank, and to improve your FPS experience, you want a mouse that is capable of changing its sensitivity (DPI).<\/p>\n

Additionally, FPS games generally require a relatively low sensitivity and once you\u2019ve worked out your suited eDPI, you might find that you now run out of room to move on a conventional mousepad.<\/p>\n

This is why we recommend getting a large extended mousepad that can fit both your keyboard and mouse, so when you’re aiming and flicking, you don\u2019t run out of space.<\/p>\n

Aim training<\/h3>\n

Once you\u2019ve figured out your suited mouse sensitivity, training maps are a great way to improve different aspects of your aiming.<\/p>\n

If you’re looking for a helpful and reliable aim training tool, Aim Lab is a good bet \u2014 and is free on Steam.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Aim Lab has a creator studio where dedicated community members have crafted specific training tasks and scenarios for a variety of popular shooters.<\/p>\n

It provides you with a detailed summary of your results, highlighting your accuracy and reaction time to show your progress.<\/p>\n

Aim Lab also offers personal feedback based on your performance, and it even has leaderboards to encourage you to keep at it.<\/p>\n

It’s important to note that you should pick training tasks that fit the general movement and pace of the game that you intend on playing.<\/p>\n

For example, Apex legends<\/em> require more of a tracking movement, so it won\u2019t help training quick flick shots.<\/p>\n

Crosshair placement<\/h3>\n

Crosshair placement is just as valuable as raw accuracy \u2014 especially when looking for headshots in games like CS: GO and Valorant.<\/p>\n

A crucial mistake many players make is having their crosshair at body height, which forces the player to make bigger adjustments when trying to hit the head on the opponent \u2014 which could give the enemy time to kill you first.<\/p>\n

Keeping your crosshair at head height will require minor adjustments to hit your target when you spot an enemy \u2014 giving the opponent less time to react.<\/p>\n

This will not only make you more accurate, but you’ll also be able to react faster as you have a smaller distance to cover with your crosshair.<\/p>\n

You can optimise this further by taking the time to learn a given map’s peak points and high-traffic avenues \u2014 this knowledge can be built as you play or by watching pro matches on YouTube.<\/p>\n

Head height and crosshair placement can be trained by taking advantage of the practice maps in-game, which often include the option of practising against bots.<\/p>\n

Another good task to do is to learn the spray pattern of the weapons in the game, which can also be done on practice maps.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, you can look through Steam\u2019s workshop tab for game maps that are specifically designed to train spray control.<\/p>\n

By consistently playing and improving on your mistakes with these tips in mind, you\u2019ll find that you\u2019re hitting those juicy headshots in no time.<\/p>\n
