As promised, Crytek has released the long awaited DirectX 11 update for Crysis 2, unleashing cutting edge visual wizardry, such as DX11 tessellation, displacement mapping, realistic shadows with variable penumbra, parallax occlusion mapping and “several improvements for water, particles, depth of field and motion blur.”<\/p>\n
On top of that, the developer has made a high-res texture pack available for download, supposedly replacing the stock textures with infinitely more butch textures that will make even the most diehard PC gaming master racists purr with delight.<\/p>\n
The DX11 patch weighs in at a surprisingly modest 546 MB, while the texture pack will set you back 1.7 GB.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, we’ve already played the single player and moved on from the multiplayer, which means that if anything, we’ll install the updates, boot the game up, look around for ten minutes, and thus will conclude our experience of Crysis 2 running in DX11 mode with high-res textures. Thanks Crytek, but next time just release the game when its finished, m’kay?<\/p>\n
Being a negative Nancy is never fun, but I can’t help but feel that introducing such significant updates at this point for game like Crysis 2 feels a just a little superfluous.<\/p>\n
In order to take advantage of the high-res texture pack, you’ll need 64-bit Windows and a graphics card with at least 768 MB of memory. Of course, you will need a DX11 enabled system to enable DX11 mode.<\/p>\n
