{"id":126085,"date":"2022-11-16T13:06:35","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T11:06:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=126085"},"modified":"2022-11-16T15:21:57","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T13:21:57","slug":"the-game-i-hated-the-most","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/reviews\/126085-the-game-i-hated-the-most","title":{"rendered":"The game I hated the most"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although there is an assortment of games that I have not enjoyed playing, I hated playing the PlayStation Vita&#8217;s Gravity Rush the most.<\/p>\n<p>I was one of probably ten people in South Africa to own and regularly use a Vita, which I think was a somewhat underrated console.<\/p>\n<p>It had some decent exclusives \u2013 with 2013&#8217;s Tearaway being a standout.<\/p>\n<p>Uncharted Golden Abyss and Killzone Mercenary offered particularly impressive graphics for a handheld device.<\/p>\n<p>However, other games were terrible \u2013 to the point of being literally unplayable.<\/p>\n<p>Call of Duty: Declassified and Assassins Creed III: Liberation were insanely buggy, which is strange considering they were both designed for the Vita, and the Borderlands 2 port was so awful I am surprised that they even released it.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the other games, Gravity Rush ran rather well on the PS Vita &#8211; but I wish it hadn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Gameplay so dull that it brings you back down to earth<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gravity Rush Launch Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5Q-p-41_V4Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The trailer made this game seem incredibly fun, showing that you could fling your character into the sky.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the controls and camera were so terrible that I threw her everywhere except where I wanted her to go.<\/p>\n<p>The enemies also offered no challenge, as the developers were acutely aware that the imprecise controls would make challenging combat infuriating for the player.<\/p>\n<p>It also did not help that the game had almost no variety; for example, every side mission was a simple fetch quest, making me feel like a flying deliveryman.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Extravagant but mind-numbing story<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/thumbor\/S2SrSPAOrlZsu6UkHXv9ZHsJAcA=\/0x0:1920x1080\/1200x800\/filters:focal(1110x334:1416x640)\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/uploads\/chorus_image\/image\/71271037\/27229821863_356fdc3cff_o.0.jpg\" alt=\"Gravity Rush\" width=\"642\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although the gameplay was the worst part of my experience, the story elements were also flawed.<\/p>\n<p>The playable character&#8217;s name is Kat, an amnesiac who travels around with a cat named Dusty, who gives her the ability to shift gravity.<\/p>\n<p>The initial dynamic of Kat trying to figure out the world around her was pretty interesting, but the story got unnecessarily convoluted by the second half of the game.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the story got progressively more convoluted and started to drag by the second half of the game.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem was that while Kat&#8217;s clumsy nature and selfless behavior made her an endearing main character, the other characters in the game had little personality, making it difficult to care about the game&#8217;s world.<\/p>\n<p>I was thus surprised to hear that a movie adaptation of the game is in development.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/reviews\/126078-the-video-game-i-like-the-most-3\">I recently wrote an article that noted that the Uncharted games<\/a>, the gold standard for video game writing and characterisation, could not be converted into an enjoyable movie.<\/p>\n<p>It, therefore, baffles me how Gravity Rush&#8217;s bewildering story could work in a film.<\/p>\n<p>I recommend that readers avoid this game at all possible costs, because it is uninteresting, and offers terrible gameplay.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/playstation\/81746-dont-hold-your-breath-a-playstation-vita-2-is-unlikely-to-happen\">Read More: Don&#8217;t hold your breath: A PlayStation Vita 2 is unlikely to happen\u00a0<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan Studio&#8217;s Gravity Rush fails in numerous ways. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":253,"featured_media":114673,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_enabled":true,"_sma_x_custom_text":"","_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,11681,8],"tags":[17125,15886,1239,527],"class_list":["post-126085","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-entertainment","category-playstation","category-reviews","tag-gravity-rush","tag-gravity-rush-2","tag-playstation-4","tag-ps-vita"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/126085","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/253"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=126085"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/126085\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":126086,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/126085\/revisions\/126086"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/114673"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=126085"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=126085"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=126085"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
