With the 30 June 2011 RICA deadline looming ever closer, Vodacom said that it is important to ensure that all SIMs are registered.<\/p>\n

Vodacom said that there are still about one million SIMs on its network that have yet to be registered and warned that all devices that use a SIM will be affected, not just cellphones.<\/p>\n

These devices include 3G modems, home alarm systems and electronic gates at certain complexes.<\/p>\n

South Africa’s cellular networks and service providers have offered a number of ways to check the RICA status of a SIM, with some of the more convenient methods outlined below.<\/p>\n

Vodacom<\/h3>\n

Send the word RICA to 31050 from the number being checked. This is a free SMS for Vodacom users.<\/p>\n

Vodacom also offers a web-based method for verifying your RICA status.<\/p>\n

  1. Go to vodacom.co.za<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Click on login in the top right and log in<\/li>\n
  3. Click on the My Vodacom tab<\/li>\n
  4. Click on ‘RICA status’ on left hand side of screen under ‘Account info’<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    MTN<\/h3>\n

    MTN subscribers can dial *131*4# to check their RICA status, or use MTN’s online form.<\/p>\n

    1. Go to the MTN website<\/a>; alternative MTN Website<\/a><\/li>\n
    2. Type in your phone number and click “Check”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Cell C<\/h3>\n

      To check the RICA status of your Cell C SIM, dial *133*RICA# (*133*7422#).<\/p>\n

      Virgin Mobile<\/h3>\n

      Virgin Mobile said that they will send an SMS containing RICA status if customers dial *124# from a device with a Virgin Mobile SIM in it.<\/p>\n

      8ta<\/h3>\n

      Telkom previously explained that since 8ta was launched after RICA was put in force, customers with access to their 8ta service may safely assume that they’ve been RICAed.<\/p>\n
