Activision boss and intergalactic evil overlord Bobby Kotick has branded the new PlayStation Vita with his fiery stamp of approval, but questioned its relevance in a market already dominated by smartphones.<\/p>\n
“It is a fantastic piece of hardware. Technically, we’re super excited about what we can do on it, it’s really something incredible,” he tells the Guardian,<\/a> clearing thinking of all the cheap movie tie-ins he could sign off on it.<\/p>\n “The question is, where is the market? I think the pricing was surprisingly affordable, the product itself is really great – so the question is, is there a need in the marketplace for a very specialised portable device of that capability?”<\/p>\n Although he does point out himself, a little earlier in the interview, that “There will always be a need for specialised hardware to satisfy the needs of gamers”, so I guess gamers are probably the market. Which does kind of make sense.<\/p>\n
