The South African gaming community has plenty of large communities to join – from places to buy and sell second-hand gaming hardware, to groups of gamers who play together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of these communities comprise thousands of South Africans from across the country who have joined together with like-minded gamers and nerd culture enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of these groups focus on specific games, while other communities have a more general focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are looking for gamers to play with, or a place to discuss your favourite gaming topics – there is a South African online community that meets your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MyGaming has picked out 12 large South African gaming communities to consider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ZA Gaming Alliance (ZAGA)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The ZA Gaming Alliance<\/a><\/strong>, better known as ZAGA, is one of South Africa’s most well-known gaming communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its Facebook group had 88,500 members at the time of writing, and is a catch-all group for gaming discussions, questions, memes, and recruitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ZA Gaming Alliance is so popular that several members even have stickers they put on the back of their cars – much to the delight of other members when they find a ZAGA gamer “out in the wild.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MyBroadband Forum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The MyBroadband Forum<\/strong><\/a> is South Africa’s largest technology forum – making it a great place to find fellow gamers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has a dedicated gaming sub-forum, and is naturally a place where you can find many technology and gaming enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MyBroadband Forum also runs several polls a week – some of which will give you the opportunity to have your say on gaming questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carbonite<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Carbonite<\/strong><\/a> is a popular online technology classifieds website for South Africans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a popular place to buy and sell new and second-hand gaming hardware, software, and peripherals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond its famous classifieds section, there is also a general forum where you can discuss the latest gaming and tech news and opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South African Fighting Game Community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The South African Fighting Game Community<\/a><\/strong>, or SA_FGC for short, is a discord channel for South Africans who love beat-em-up style games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has over 3,500 members and is free and available for anyone to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside text channels for fighting game discussions and other gaming culture topics, it has a collection of voice channels for gamers who want to play titles like Tekken and Street Fighter together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mettlestate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mettlestate<\/strong><\/a> describes itself as “the ultimate gaming platform where skills meet rewards.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It organises various tournaments, competitions, and challenges for local gamers, with the opportunity to win cash prizes if you are successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its featured games include Fortnite, Chess, Clash Royale, COD Mobile, EA FC Mobile, and Free Fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaos Gaming<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Chaos Gaming<\/a><\/strong> is a long-standing South African community that is heavily focused on modding video games and running servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to its website, it hosts dedicated hardware locally for ARK, ATLAS, and Empyrion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We\u2019ve been hosting servers, coding mods, and running organized chaos since 2005, back in the Battlefield 2 and ADSL days when Teamspeak ruled the world,” says Chaos Gaming’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Africa War Era<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

South Africa War Era<\/strong><\/a> is the dedicated discord community focused on playing the popular browser-based life-sim military game, War Era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared to several other communities on the list, South Africa War Era is a bit smaller – with about 700 members – but it is a tight-knit and welcoming community that is particularly enthusiastic about helping new players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The South African War Era community is currently trying to reclaim its land from the occupying Germans, who used Namibia as a proxy to execute their invasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valorant Sub-Saharan Africa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Valorant Sub-Saharan Africa<\/a><\/strong> is a discord community with nearly 2,500 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is focused on the popular online shooting game, Valorant, and is a great place to discuss the game and find local gamers to play with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will also find information about the latest Valorant news and tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Escape from Tarkov ZA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This 3,250+ community<\/a><\/strong> is focused on the popular online shooter, Escape from Tarkov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game is a tactical extraction title and is set in a fictional area in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
