Following speculation yesterday after a boxshot of Resistance 3 turned up branded with a “PSN Pass” logo, Sony has confirmed they’re implementing a single-use code system for online multiplayer, as previously seen over at EA, THQ, and other publishers.<\/p>\n
“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” a company spokesperson tells IGN<\/a>.<\/p>\n “This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.<\/p>\n “This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”<\/p>\n I love how charging people for stuff is described as “enhancing premium online services”, as though it benefits the player in some way.<\/p>\n One could almost imagine GLaDOS saying it.<\/p>\n That said, if this resolves the dispute between publishers and secondhand retailers, is it really such a bad thing? Of course the answer will be yes if you ask anyone who frequently buys games used games.<\/p>\n
