{"id":12818,"date":"2011-07-08T12:39:00","date_gmt":"2011-07-08T10:39:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"gears-of-war-3-wasn-t-leaked-it-was-hosted-on-an-unsecured-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/12818-gears-of-war-3-wasn-t-leaked-it-was-hosted-on-an-unsecured-server","title":{"rendered":"Gears of War 3 wasn\u2019t leaked, it was hosted on an unsecured server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last weekend, copies of a mostly complete dev build of <a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/xbox\/12709-Gears-War-dev-build-leaked.html\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Gears of War 3 turned up on the torrents\">Gears of War 3 turned up on the torrents<\/a>, prompting Epic and Microsoft to get the cops involved in what appeared to be an inside leak or even a hack job.<\/p>\n<p>Now it looks like the game might have been downloaded (at least originally) from a server that was not login- or password-protected, where it was hosted by Codify, a company who lists Microsoft as a client, and was already hosting a range of Xbox promotional material for the Australasian market. Even worse, the server&rsquo;s contents turned up on a Google search.<\/p>\n<p>That was all up until very, very recently, when a <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/Mathieulh\/status\/88983188952723456\" target=\"_blank\">French developer spotted the link<\/a> in the wilds, and told the world about it.
