The Far Cry series has always been a favourite amongst PC gamers looking to put their high-tech gear through its paces. Known for its detailed environments and graphical demands, Far Cry games have always been a worthy benchmark.<\/p>\n

The lead developer of Far Cry 3, Jamie Keen, has had a lot to say to PC Gamer<\/a> about the challenges of developing for multiple platforms.<\/p>\n

While running though the demo at E3, Jamie had this to say: “The consoles simply don’t have the same kind of grandeur that PCs can have. Especially a top end PC. This is an E3 demo so we’re going to have everything really really, really dialled up. But it’s going to be scalable. And that’s the good thing – we are starting off with something that’s scaleable to begin with.”<\/p>\n

The developer went on to talk about the difficulties of dealing with different capabilities, and managing expectations: “Right now we’re just trying to show this stuff – we want to show the range and put our best foot forward. But then that’s just the nature of development. The specs of a console are different to the specs of the top end PC, so it’s not that we’re able to avoid.”<\/p>\n

Perhaps acknowledging the disappointment fans had over the last Far Cry game, Jamie went on to assure the community that they are doing it differently this time: We really listen to what the community is after. There’s a hit list of things that we need to get right this time. Not that anything we did was really bad last time, it’s just that there’s going to be develop to make sure that we deliver the experience.”<\/p>\n

Finally, the developer went on to say that narrative and story are going to be improved from the last game which Jamie says “was great, but slightly at arm’s length.” Story is going to be a major focus of the third game, something that you “can really interact with.”<\/p>\n
