Valve is currently hard at work putting the finishing touches on DotA 2, and we are expecting a massive reveal at Gamescom next month. The game is expected out before the end of the year, and rumour has it that it will be free-to-play.<\/p>\n

DotA was a WarCraft III custom map developed by a dedicated community of gamers. It grew to become is one of the most successful PC gameplay experiences ever, so there is a lot riding on the sequel.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons DotA is so ridiculously popular is that running in the Warcraft III engine, it can be played on very basic PC hardware (600MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 32MB video card). Therefore, fans will be hoping that the sequel does not require too much in the way of hardware resources.<\/p>\n

An official DotA forum<\/a> staff member, Cp6uja, has confirmed that the game will have similar system specifications to Valve’s other top down Source engine based shooter, Alien Swarm, which is available for free on Steam.<\/p>\n

“Alien Swarm is the best example for comparing the system requirements,” said Cp6uja, going on to say that “If you can run it, you’ll be able to play DOTA2.”<\/p>\n

And just in case you haven’t tried Alien Swarm, here are it’s system requirements:<\/p>\n

Minimum:<\/strong><\/p>\n

o    OS: Windows® 7 \/ Vista \/ Vista64 \/ XP
o    Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
o    Memory: 1 GB for XP \/ 2GB for Vista
o    Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
o    Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
o    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

o    OS: Windows® 7 \/ Vista \/ Vista64 \/ XP
o    Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
o    Memory: 1 GB for XP \/ 2GB for Vista
o    Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
o    Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
o    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card<\/p>\n

Their not quite as low as WarCraft III’s, but it’s safe to say that most gamers won’t have a problem running DotA 2.<\/p>\n
