{"id":13346,"date":"2011-08-04T23:54:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-04T21:54:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"torchlight-2-xbla-launch-on-hold-because-it-s-too-big","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/13346-torchlight-2-xbla-launch-on-hold-because-it-s-too-big","title":{"rendered":"Torchlight 2 XBLA launch on hold because it\u2019s \u201ctoo big\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In news that has me verging on a cryface, Runic Games has announced that Torchlight 2 won&rsquo;t be seeing an Xbox LIVE Arcade launch for the moment &ndash; or maybe ever &#8211; because the game is simply too big.<\/p>\n<p>According to CEO Max Schaefer, the first game only barely managed to squeeze into Microsoft&rsquo;s XBLA size limit, currently standing at 2 GB. Of course, that&rsquo;s a lot more than it used to be &ndash; when the XBLA service first launched in 2005, the size limit was 50 MB, later increased to 150 MB, then 350 MB. A bit of investigative journalism reveals that the 2 GB size limit is unlikely to change, however, as it&rsquo;s apparently a &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/xboxlive.ign.com\/articles\/102\/1028055p1.html\" target=\"_blank\">technical limitation<\/a>&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With Torchlight 2 there is a little more complication as far as just being able to do a straight port, as we did with Torchlight 1,&#8221; Schaefer tells <a href=\" http:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/articles\/2011-08-04-torchlight-2-is-too-big-for-xbla\" target=\"_blank\">Eurogamer<\/a>. &#8220;In all likelihood, if Torchlight 2 gets to the Xbox it would be probably fairly comprehensively redesigned.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would have to be redoing the interface for a console release anyway, just like we did with Torchlight 1, so it would probably make sense to do something more specifically tailored to the Xbox.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He adds that the company would &ldquo;absolutely consider&rdquo; a full retail release for console instead, although they&rsquo;ve not made any plans to do so as yet.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to its predecessor, the sequel includes much more content, as well as co-op multiplayer &ndash; a feature sorely lacking the first time around.<\/p>\n<p>The game is still on track for a PC release &ldquo;definitely, 100 per cent, for sure this year&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Size matters<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":161,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-13346","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13346","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/161"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=13346"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13346\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13346"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=13346"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=13346"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
