The most difficult part of making this list was choosing just 10 from the plethora of super-exciting games that are due out before the end of this year. In fact, we counted 25 games that we are really looking forward to that are scheduled to hit shelves before Christmas.<\/p>\n

Without further adieu then, here are the ten games that we are most looking forward to before the year is out.<\/p>\n

Deus Ex: Human Revolution<\/strong> <\/span>PC, PS3, 360 (26 August<\/em>)<\/p>\n

We were a little apprehensive about this long awaited sequel. Duke Nukem: Forever taught us that if anything, the longer we wait for a sequel, the less chance there is of it living up to our lofty, nostalgia soaked expectations.<\/p>\n

However, PCGamer gave it 94\/100<\/a>, and gameplay footage so far has been nothing less than titillating, so we’re kind of ridiculously excited about Deus Ex: Human Revolution.<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim<\/strong><\/span> PC, PS3, 360 (11 November)<\/em><\/p>\n

Ever since Bethesda unveiled the first significant gameplay footage of Skyrim at E3 this year, we have been virtually chomping at the bit to get our hands on it.<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Battlefield 3<\/strong> <\/span>PC, PS3, 360 (28 October<\/em>)<\/p>\n

Possibly the most exciting first-person shooter due out in 2011, Battlefield 3 has done nothing but blow audiences away with its next-gen visuals. And we expect far more than just a pretty face from DICE’s next outing, thanks to the developer’s outstanding pedigree of genre defining titles in the Battlefield franchise.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3<\/strong><\/span> PC, PS3, 360 (8 November) <\/em><\/p>\n

Poor Modern Warfare 3, it’s without a doubt the game everybody loves to hate. However, it’s also the next release in a franchise that literally everyone loves to buy. We can’t wait to see what Activision’s star developer, Infinity Ward, can deliver with its next outing.<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Rage<\/strong> <\/span>PC, PS3, 360 (4 October)<\/em><\/p>\n

While all eyes will be on Modern Warfare 3 vs. Battlefield 3 later this year, those tired of military themed first person shooters will be more interested in id Software’s RAGE, which is shaping up to be extremely promising. We have a good feeling about this one…<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception<\/strong><\/span> PS3 (2 November)<\/em><\/p>\n

Uncharted 2 remains one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, earning a Metacritic score of 96\/100, and making it the PS3’s hottest property.<\/p>\n

If Naughty Dog can simply stick to its winning formula and deliver another intriguing, rich, colourful and exciting adventure, then there is no reason Uncharted 3 won’t live up to its predecessor’s success.<\/p>\n

Gears of War 3<\/strong><\/span> 360 (September)<\/em><\/p>\n

Before PS3 fanboys get too smug, they might consider that Xbox 360 owners have the third instalment of the now iconic Gears of War franchise to look forward to.<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Star Wars: The Old Republic <\/strong><\/span>PC (late 2011)<\/em><\/p>\n

Sadly, Bioware’s first MMO is not scheduled for release in South Africa. However, there’s nothing stopping you from importing it yourself. The details are still sketchy, but Bioware has confirmed that it has no intentions to block IP by regions, so we should be able to get onto the European servers.<\/p>\n

\n<\/embed><\/object>\n<\/p>\n

Dark Souls  <\/em><\/strong><\/span>PS3 (7 October<\/em>)<\/p>\n

The spiritual successor for the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls is due to land in a few months, and any hardcore RPG fans that thrive on a challenge (read: extremely frustrating and unfair experience) will be sweating from their palms in anticipation of what should be a fantastic game.<\/p>\n

Batman: Arkham City<\/strong><\/span> PC, PS3, 360 (21 October)<\/em><\/p>\n

Batman: Arkham Asylum turned heads when it was released back in 2009, mainly because it was a game based on a comic series that didn’t suck. In fact, Arkham Asylum is widely regarded as a truly excellent video game.<\/p>\n

Arkham City is the direct sequel, and we can expect plenty more action-adventure\/stealthy hijinks as we step into the caped crusader’s suit for another chapter.<\/p>\n
