Hey, remember Diablo II’s Hell difficulty? It’s the one you didn’t finish, because you couldn’t get through that bit in Act V. And by “you”, I mean “I”, but probably “you” too.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Diablo III is taking it all a bit further, with a new “Inferno” difficulty mode, for players who’ve maxed out at level 60, but aren’t done clicking on monsters yet.<\/p>\n

According to a report over on Kotaku<\/a>, Inferno’s monsters have increased health, damage, damage resistances and aggression, as well as access to additional abilities and such.<\/p>\n

“The idea was that we wanted a difficulty mode where the entire game was viable, so you don’t have to pick and choose key areas [to replay],” game director Jay Wilson explains,  adding that it’s going to be “very difficult, very challenging”.<\/p>\n

The big idea is to present a “flattened” difficulty throughout the game, precluding the necessity of those Mephisto runs everybody did to grind cool gear in Diablo II.<\/p>\n

“We do expect there to be a certain amount of… runs to get items, but we wanted players to do it over a lot more content,” Wilson said. “We’re trying to make sure that there’s a lot more opportunities for players to see a lot more variety.”<\/p>\n

Much like Diablo II’s Hell difficulty, Inferno also features exclusive drops of items and weapons not found in other difficulties, including some of the socketable Runestones.<\/p>\n

Blizzard hasn’t yet announced an official launch date for Diablo III, but the beta is expected to open sometime soon.<\/p>\n
