PC hardware enthusiast site, Modmywhat <\/a>is reporting that over 20 percent of the high-end gaming PCs used to demonstrate Battlefield 3 at Gamescom over the past week have been “fried” by the game.<\/p>\n

14 test machines were confirmed dead at the behind-closed-doors Battlefield 3 gameplay sessions, all as a result of running the resource intensive game for extended periods of time. This comes on the back of reports that Battlefield 3 will be capable of pushing even high-end gaming PCs to their limits<\/a>. <\/p>\n

DICE has promised that the game will present a welcome challenge to system builders and hardware enthusiasts, but at the same time it will be playable on more modest rigs, albeit on lower graphics settings.<\/p>\n

A Battlefield 3 developer told modmywhat that the problems experienced at Gamescom were driver related, and that the team is currently coding without system requirements in mind, and as a result some of the demo rigs have paid the ultimate price. AMD as well as Nvidia rigs have fallen victim to the brutal demands of the game in its current state.<\/p>\n

Reports also indicate that the game was not running at a constant 60 frames per second on High graphics settings at Gamescom, even though high-end gaming machines were used.<\/p>\n

Of course the game is not done yet, so it would be alarmist to start panicking or drawing any conclusions based on this. DICE still has a few months left to polish and optimise the code before it is released on 28 October.<\/p>\n
