This came paired with a domain, pcgamingisnotdead.com, and the promise of a major announcement come August 26th.

An obvious marketing ploy, August 26th has come and Razer has unleashed their savior of PC gaming on the world – a new laptop. Yawn. What this has to do with platform unification, I’m not exactly sure.

According to Razer, the “Blade” is the “world’s first true gaming laptop”. I’m typing this on a laptop right now with better specs than the Blade, so I think Asus may take issue with that statement.

Despite not having the most mind-blowing specs, the Blade does have some nifty features. Razer’s Switchblade user interface boasts 10 dynamic adaptive keys that’ll allow you easy access to in-game commands. It also has a small LCD to the right of the keyboard featuring two modes – one that displays in-game information when you’re using a mouse, and one that functions as a multi-touch panel.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has this to say: “”The Razer Blade was designed to give gamers a laptop they could truly use on the go. Its sleek, lightweight aluminum construction makes it the thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop available today. The Switchblade User Interface on the Razer Blade is a revolutionary innovation that truly defines the new standard for gaming experiences on a laptop.”

Have a look at the specs:

• 2.8GHz IntelCore i7 2640M processor
• 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 memory
• 17.3″ LED Backlit Display (1920×1080)
• NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus technology
• 2GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory
• Built-in HD webcam
• Integrated 60Wh battery
• 320GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
• Wireless network 802.11 b/g/n compatible
• 16.81″ (width) x 10.9″ (depth) x 0.88″ height); 6.97lbs (weight)

For the hefty price tag, the graphics card is a little underwhelming for a 17inch laptop, and one can’t help feel that the hard drive could have been a little bigger. Nevertheless, the sleek design and features will no doubt appeal to many.

The Blade is due for a late 2011 release, and will be coming in at $2799.99 (about R20,800).
