Since its release, the small stand-alone game Portal has found its way onto many gamers’ favourites list. Despite its humble beginnings as an added bonus in The Orange Box, of which the main focus was Half-life and Team Fortress, Portal rose to cult status with its addictive gameplay and tight storyline packed with some of the most hilarious black humour the gaming world had seen in years.<\/p>\n
After amassing a legion of fans and spawning a truckload of internet memes, Portal made way for a longer, more complete sequel – one met with just as much critical acclaim as its predecessor, achieving an impressive metacritic score of 95.<\/p>\n
Co-creator of the franchise, Kim Swift, is now at work on a new project. Billed as a science fiction first-person platform puzzle game, there is no doubt that this will be in a similar vein to Portal – although this time it’ll be designed around alternate dimensions.<\/p>\n
The new game, Quantum Conundrum, will be developed by Airtight Games and published by Square Enix, and is set for an early 2012 release on Steam, XBLA and the PSN.<\/p>\n
Kim Swift, creative director at Airtight Games, says, ““We wanted to create a fun, quirky puzzle game that anyone would want to play, regardless of age or gaming experience.”<\/p>\n
“I’ve been working with an amazing and collaborative team on this project and look forward to coming into the office every day to hear new ideas, see what everyone has created, and dive in on my own pieces of the game. We’ve created something that we’re all extremely proud of and hope that people will enjoy playing it as much as we are making it.”<\/p>\n
Swift is unquestionably talented, and is clearly playing to her strengths with this title. If this title is anywhere near as good as Portal, it’s definitely something to get excited about.\\<\/p>\n
