This week’s edition of Instant Gamer Rage-Inducing Press Statement comes via Driver: San Francisco developer, Ubisoft Reflections, who have said that publisher Ubisoft has “every right” to use DRM to protect the game from “utterly unbelievable” levels of PC piracy.<\/p>\n
“You have to do something,” studio founder Martin Edmonson tells Eurogamer<\/a>. “It’s just, simply, PC piracy is at the most incredible rates. This game cost a huge amount of money to develop, and it has to be, quite rightly – quite morally correctly – protected.”<\/p>\n “If there was very little trouble with piracy then we wouldn’t need it.”<\/p>\n The recent announcement that the game’s DRM would require always-online connectivity<\/a> was quick to stir up controversy, prompting Ubisoft to relax the requirement to launch only.<\/p>\n One has to wonder though, why doesn’t Ubisoft chuck its stupid DRM and online passes, and simply use Steam instead.<\/p>\n
