Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg announced at a recent investor event in Los Angeles that the publisher has pushed 18 million premium map packs for Call of Duty: Black Ops.<\/p>\n
That’s not too bad for a game that everybody swears up and down that they’ll never play.<\/p>\n
He also added that the average Black Ops player spends $76 (about R530 or so) on the game, an 18% increase on the game’s regular pricetag.<\/p>\n
All that cash has added up to a $1.7 billion heap in Activision’s bank vault in the 12 month period ending June 2011.<\/p>\n
“There are over 30 million unique players of Black Ops who collectively have amassed, incredibly, more than 2.3 billion hours of play,” Hirschberg said.<\/p>\n
“To put that number in perspective, that’s more than a quarter of a million years of play and that means our millions of fans spend more time per day on Black Ops multiplayer than they do on Facebook.”<\/p>\n
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out in November 2011. Expect map packs.<\/p>\n
