{"id":13980,"date":"2011-09-12T15:12:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-12T13:12:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"heavy-rain-dev-lost-5-10-million-in-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/13980-heavy-rain-dev-lost-5-10-million-in-revenue","title":{"rendered":"Heavy Rain dev lost \u20ac5-10 million in revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The gaming industry has a new enemy, and it&rsquo;s that person who buys their games secondhand.<\/p>\n<p>That&rsquo;s according to Quantic Dreams&rsquo; Guillaume de Fondaumiere, who blames the used game market for &ldquo;between &euro;5 and &euro;10 million&rdquo; lost in revenue from Heavy Rain.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would say that the impact that the recession had, especially on AAA games on console, was the rise of second hand gaming. And I think this is one of the number one problems right now in the industry,&#8221; he told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/articles\/2011-09-09-guillaume-de-fondaumiere\" target=\"_self\" title=\"GamesIndustry.biz\">GamesIndustry.biz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I can take just one example of Heavy Rain &#8211; we basically sold to date approximately two million units, we know from the trophy system that probably more than three million people bought this game and played it. On my small level it&#8217;s a million people playing my game without giving me one cent. And my calculation is, as Quantic Dream, I lost between &euro;5 and &euro;10 million worth of royalties because of second hand gaming.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, of course, maybe those million people who bought the game secondhand the first time around might buy the second title at launch.
