<\/p>\nDriver Renegade 3D is a story-driven driving game for the Nintendo 3DS where you play as ex-detective John Tanner.<\/p>\n
A man frustrated by the bureaucracy of the police force and his superiors, Tanner left the force and now takes matters into his own hands in a gross display of vigilantism.<\/p>\n
Tanner is backed by one of the city’s most prominent political figures who uses his influence to allow Tanner to go about his business with little to no harassment from the police.<\/p>\n

Storyline<\/strong><\/p>\n The game invites you to “experience a dark and thrilling investigation”.<\/p>\n The story is cut-and-paste from too many Hollywood B movie scripts and as a result it is boring and predictable. How many of you think a female love-interest character will appear somewhere along the storyline? All of you? Well good, because you’re right.<\/p>\n Voice acting seems forced and bland with no real effort put forward, and accompanies motion graphics that highlight the story between missions.<\/p>\n The motion graphics aren’t badly done, but are so cheesy they might as well have been put together by a team consisting of Mozzarella, Cheddar and Brie. (Ed: ouch…<\/em>)<\/p>\n The cinematics offer a ham fisted introduction into the missions, and are followed by typical tough-guy one liners and puns by Tanner as you speed after your target. <\/p>\n Gameplay<\/strong><\/p>\n Missions involve driving around and eliminating enemies in typical Driver fashion and are mildly entertaining.<\/p>\n The driving mechanics are solid and well thought out, and work well with the 3DS’s controls, which are responsive and feel connected to your car.<\/p>\n Handling is top notch for this style of gameplay and leads to very little frustration when playing, though the game does come across as fairly easy because of this.<\/p>\n Gamers are tasked with driving around the city chasing after the bad guys, and have to contend with traffic, construction sites and conveniently placed ramps.<\/p>\n Destroying environment variables such as lamp poles, red cones or construction equipment fills up the “rage bar”, a feature that grants the player a temporary speed boost when full.<\/p>\n Missions end once you’ve disabled your opponent, which is often easier than you would think.<\/p>\n A couple of knocks into their car with yours, forcing them into a wall or oncoming traffic, or boxing them into an area are all ways of disabling them and are quite effective (read: easy).<\/p>\n Shunting an opponent is possible by tapping the left and right shoulder buttons, which slides your car at a rapid rate either left or right into the enemy vehicle.<\/p>\n Doing so with a full rage bar will result in an instantly disabled opponent and an end to the mission.<\/p>\n Unfortunately your car suffers from the same build quality as that of your opponents, which means dying by collision with unsuspecting traffic is a frequent experience.<\/p>\n The story mode is surprisingly short, consisting of just 20 missions that are completed within a few hours of solid gameplay.<\/p>\n Multiple attempts at the same mission are required as a result of frequent deaths rather than difficult to complete missions.<\/p>\n Beyond the story mode is a career mode which rehashes events from the same 20 story mode missions with the addition of challenges such as elimination or time trial events.<\/p>\n There is very little incentive to play beyond the story mode unless you’re the competitive type.<\/p>\n Environment and graphics<\/strong><\/p>\n Being a 3DS game, 3D is present in Driver Renegade, though the reasoning behind this remains unclear.<\/p>\n Ironically, the added depth perception thanks to the 3D mode adds very little depth to the game, which looks much better with the 3D slider turned all the way down.<\/p>\n Even this fails to impress after a while though, and it is obvious very little attention was paid to the car models, buildings or roads, which lack detail and come across as very blocky. There are no pedestrians to add character to the city and traffic is on the sparse side, giving off a very lifeless, boring environment.<\/p>\n The rest<\/strong><\/p>\n There is no multiplayer in Driver Renegade, which is a pity considering it would’ve added an interesting aspect to an otherwise boring experience.<\/p>\n There is StreetPass available which allows you to share records with other 3DS users, though there is very little point to this as you can’t challenge them to beat your scores in any meaningful way.<\/p>\n The final word<\/strong><\/p>\n Driver can be fun if you intend to work through the missions in sporadic fashion while in queue at the bank, on the train during morning travel to work, or at the dinner table while your mother-in-law visits.<\/p>\n However the experience leaves one with very little sense of achievement, and definitely won’t put a smile on your face.<\/p>\n Driver Renegade 3D; a flawed game with very little appeal beyond being a way to pass the time in a mundane situation.<\/p>\n Driver Renegade 3D review<\/strong><\/a> << Comments and views<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t![](\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/driver_renegade_6_360964725.jpg\")
