{"id":14194,"date":"2011-09-22T13:38:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-22T11:38:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"1-5-million-battlefield-3-copies-pre-ordered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/14194-1-5-million-battlefield-3-copies-pre-ordered","title":{"rendered":"1.5 million Battlefield 3 copies pre-ordered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a report over on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.industrygamers.com\/news\/battlefield-3-pre-orders-up-to-15-million\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"IndustryGamers\">IndustryGamers<\/a>, preorders for Battlefield 3 have passed the 1.5 million mark, with some 250 000 of those made in the last two weeks or so.<\/p>\n<p>A bonus map pack incentive, valued at about $15-20 has likely boosted preorder numbers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Management remains optimistic that the title has potential to exceed sales of its predecessor (Battlefield Bad Company 2), which has sold through 9.5 million units life-to-date,&rdquo; said Sterne Agee analyst, Arvind Bhatia.<\/p>\n<p>He also notes that critic ratings for the game should be &ldquo;at least 80&rdquo;, and that the marketing war between EA and Activision could reach as much as $100 million this year.<\/p>\n<p>The showdown between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to be one of the biggest in gaming history, mostly because gamers like to make a big deal about taking a side and slagging the other off instead of just playing all the great games that come out.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The two week head start for BF3 versus CoD will facilitate a big launch for BF3,&rdquo; adds Bhatia. &ldquo;Once CoD launches, there would be a natural slowdown in sales of BF3. Then, at holiday, momentum for BF3 should rebuild.
